A highly respected name in North East corporate finance has become an Associate Director at  award-winning WilliamsAli Corporate Finance.

Mo Miah has been promoted at the boutique firm only months after joining, in recognition of the significant impact he has made through both his client-facing and internal development work.

Mo, a well-known name in the region’s corporate finance market, now plays a key role in the ongoing development of WilliamsAli, supporting the work of founders and Managing Directors Abu Ali and Phil Williams in continuing its strong growth trajectory.

The promotion of Mo, who joined in January, comes only shortly after the arrival of Paul Kaiser as Chairman, and marks an exciting period of growth for WilliamsAli.

The business is actively managing a number of significant deals set for completion later this year, and continues to be engaged by high-profile, growing clients across a range of sectors in the North East.

And alongside his deal work, Mo has also taken a lead role in the development of less experienced members of the WilliamsAli team, supporting them to build their technical expertise and client-focused approach.

“I am delighted to become an Associate Director at WilliamsAli and this has been an excellent move for me,” says Mo, who qualified at Grant Thornton in 2013.

“This is a business with a deserved fantastic reputation in the marketplace which is committed to the North East. Its values and the team’s commitment to doing the very best it can for clients really resonate with me. We are a small team and the trust and the dynamic between us is very important, but we all share values of integrity and commitment to doing the best we can, so it works very well.

“It is a big decision when you move to a new business, and it may have seemed I was taking a punt by moving to a new firm – but having known Abu and Phil for a long time, and knowing the business they had created and the impact it has already made in the marketplace in such a short time, it wasn’t a difficult decision to make.

“Our reputation and experience really helps us to stand out, and the respect we have among our network is very important in us continuing to win new business. But while we are an established name in the North East market, we are still a young business which is constantly growing and evolving. This is a very exciting time for us as we look to the future.”

Helping to guide the development of younger members of the WilliamsAli team is also something Mo has embraced.

“We have excellent executives in our team and I have been where they are so appreciate the value of training and experienced people supporting your development. It feels like me being able to give something back, to help the next generation of corporate finance professionals,” says Mo.

Away from work, Mo is a proud husband and father to two daughters, aged five and 10 months, the youngest of whom has a condition called neurofibromatosis type one (NF1), which causes tumours to grow in the nervous system.

Keen to show its support for Mo in any way it can, WilliamsAli has named Nerve Tumours UK – which supports the families of children with NF1 – as its charity of the year. Fundraising activities range from a weekly tuck shop in the office through to a number of major events set to be held throughout the year.

“The whole team have been incredibly supportive and I am very grateful for the compassion shown and flexibility provided to me by the firm. I am touched by the choice of Nerve Tumours UK as the WilliamsAli charity of the year,” says Mo.

“This is a complex and rare genetic disorder and any awareness we can raise of this condition will help families to be more informed on how to manage this lifelong condition, which currently has no cure.”

Abu Ali, Managing Director of WilliamsAli Corporate Finance, says: “Mo is a hugely capable corporate finance advisor with technical excellence and an unfaltering commitment to getting the deal done.

“He has a fantastic way with people, going out of his way to support our clients, while also showing great dedication to supporting the less experienced members of our team internally at WilliamsAli. Mo has been an outstanding addition to our team.

“His promotion to Associate Director is greatly deserved, and the fact it comes only six months after he joined us is testament to the significant impact he continues to make.

“This is the latest step in the ongoing development of WilliamsAli Corporate Finance, an award-winning name which is now recognised as a North East advisory market leader. We have a talented and growing team, and continue to look to make outstanding new additions who will help us progress even further.

“Additionally, we want to show our support to Mo and his family in any way we can. We are very pleased to support Nerve Tumours UK, a charity we know is very important to him, and therefore is important to us all.”
